Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags, and Cure Kids Cancer, an initiative of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, have teamed up to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancers with their third annual “A Walk in the Park” event. In its first two years the events have raised more than $750,000 for local hospitals across the country. The goal for the 2010 event is to raise $400,000 and to empower communities to take a stand against pediatric cancer - Because Kids Get Cancer Too!
All domestic Six Flags parks will open their gates early so participants can enjoy a private, fun, family-friendly morning filled with entertainment, refreshments and activities people of all ages can enjoy. Walkers who raise just $50.00 will receive a free ticket to spend the entire day enjoying the park. The distance of the walk will vary by park, but on average the walk is approximately 1-1.5 miles.
100% of the funds raised at all "A Walk in the Park" events stay in the local community in which they were raised to help children battling pediatric cancer. The following Children’s Miracle Network and Cure Kids Cancer hospitals will benefit from this year's walks: Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, Bristol Myers Squibb Children's, Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, Children's Memorial Hospital, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Baystate Children's Hospital, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Children's Medical Center Dallas, Cook Children's Medical Center, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
