Ariel Rose is your average 11 year old girl. She loves Harry Potter, Disney fairies, swimming, music and her friends. She spends her days giggling with her twin sister and picking on her teenage brother. Unlike other 11 year olds - Ariel is a cancer survivor. Ariel was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive muscle cancer in Oct 2007, when a 3 centimeter tumor was discovered in her sinuses, pressed against her brain. She would spend 10 months undergoing multiple surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy losing her hair and some of her childlike innocence, but she never, ever lost her sense of humor or fighting spirit. Ariel has always been the child that makes everyone laugh and her silliness, her courage inspired her siblings and friends so much they shaved their heads and stayed bald right along with her the whole course of her treatment. Now a year later, Ariel is still disease free, though she has scans and blood work every 3 months to make sure her cancer hasn't returned. Ariel is back to her pre-cancer self though she looks a little different, as her head is now covered with golden curls - an unexpected gift from her chemotherapy. She's wiser than an 11 year old should be but she still, laughs loud and often, she loves dearly, and she is currently busy deciding between a future as a pre-school teacher or tiger trainer, she's certainly brave enough to do either.
